Wasp and Hornet Control - answers

Why are wasps coming in through my ceiling?

Wasps coming in through a ceiling almost always mean an active nest in the wall void or attic, with workers finding their way toward interior light through gaps in the ceiling or light fixtures.

What is happening.

When wasps appear at a ceiling, recessed light, or the top of an interior wall, the nest is usually inside the structure - in a wall void or the attic. The workers are drawn toward the light coming through gaps and end up in the living space instead of outside.

It is worth resisting the urge to seal the interior gap first. Trapped workers will look for another way out, often deeper into the home, and a sealed-in nest can push more wasps into the living space. The nest itself has to be located and treated before anything is closed up.

This is a safety priority, especially with hornets and yellowjackets that sting repeatedly. We locate the nest, treat it with the right protection and timing, and then seal the entry so the void is not re-colonized.
