Wildlife - humane structural exclusion

We work the structure first. The animal second.

Mice, rats, squirrels, raccoons, bats, and birds do not live in your house. They live in the structure around it - the gaps, the soffits, the chimney chase, the crawl space. Solve the structure and you solve the wildlife problem at the root.

Why structural exclusion works.

Trapping an animal does not fix the reason the animal got in. The next animal walks in through the same opening. We address the opening, the conditions, and the structure - so the problem stops being a recurring problem.

01

Seal the entry points

Foundation gaps, soffit returns, ridge vents, chimney chases, plumbing penetrations, dryer vents, and roof-wall junctions. We identify every opening, including the ones the homeowner has never seen, and seal them with branded exclusion systems like PestBlok and Pest Armor, matched to the structure so the repair disappears into the building.

02

Remove conducive conditions

Food sources, water sources, and harborage. Bird feeders too close to the eaves. Gutters discharging at the foundation. Wood piles against the siding. Crawl-space moisture. Compromised attic insulation. We document each and walk you through what changes.

03

Maintain the structure

An inspection cycle that catches the next opening before it becomes the next entry point. Quarterly, semi-annual, or annual depending on the structure and the wildlife pressure in your area. This is the maintenance step that keeps the work permanent.

What we install.

Exclusion is structural work. We use branded exclusion systems, not the hardware cloth, copper mesh, and spray-foam-everywhere approach that leaves a home looking like there was a war with the animals. The materials have to match the structure, hold up to weather, resist the species pressure at your property, and disappear when the job is done.

PestBlok exclusion mesh

Branded stainless exclusion mesh that conforms to vents, gaps, and rodent-prone openings. Resists chewing and corrosion, and finishes flush with the structure instead of patched over it.

Pest Armor barrier

Branded exclusion barrier for penetrations and structural gaps. Durable, low-profile, and color-matched, so the seal holds long term without making the building look like a repair job.

Steel flashing

Heavy-gauge sheet metal cut to fit roof-wall junctions, chimney chases, and large structural gaps. Color-matched to the existing trim.

Mortar & sealant

Polyurethane sealants and mortar matched to brick or stone color. Used on masonry gaps that mesh alone cannot bridge.

What we treat under the wildlife category.

Every wildlife job starts the same way: a structural inspection, an inspection report with photos, and a strategy that addresses the root cause. Treatment-only work has its place, but it is one tool inside a structural-exclusion program - never the headline.

If you need an emergency removal - a squirrel in the chimney, a bat in a bedroom, a raccoon in the attic - call us. We handle the immediate situation, then schedule the structural exclusion work that prevents the next one.

After the animals are out, the work is not done. We handle the damage they leave behind: nest and dropping cleanup, structural repair, and roofline and entry-point fixes through our damage cleanup and repair service, plus attic insulation removal and replacement when the insulation is soiled or compressed.

Real reviews from wildlife customers.

★★★★★
Eric and David are both very knowledgeable in pest and wildlife control. I finally found a company that actually does all of the work - the pest control as well as the remediation and repairs to stop the problem. Some companies will only put out bait stations but that doesn't solve the problem, only prolongs a symptom. They help to identify and fix the source of the problem. A holistic approach which I appreciate.

Technician was respectful, courteous, prompt, and efficient. Explained everything he was doing and what he had found. He put the new protective guard over the existing one to provide double protection from birds nesting in the exhaust vent, something I would not have thought of. Overall, I give Pest Proof an A+. Will definitely use Pest Proof again and highly recommend.

Wildlife questions, answered honestly.

What happens to the animal?

We focus our public communication on the structure rather than on what happens to the animal - for two reasons. One: Virginia law restricts how wildlife can be relocated, and our practices follow state regulation. Two: every situation is different, and our priority is preventing the next animal from getting into the same opening. If you have a specific question about a specific animal, we will walk you through it during the inspection.

Do you do "catch and release"?

It is a phrase people ask about. The honest answer is that "catch and release" means different things to different people, and Virginia law is specific about how wildlife can and cannot be relocated. We walk you through what your situation calls for during the inspection. The goal is always to solve the problem at the structure, not only to move the animal.

How long does the exclusion work last?

The exclusion materials we use, branded systems like PestBlok and Pest Armor along with steel flashing and mortar, are permanent. The structure continues to age, weather, and shift, so we recommend an annual or semi-annual inspection cycle that catches the next opening before it becomes the next entry point. That maintenance step is what keeps the work permanent.

Will you damage the structure?

No. Our technicians are trained in attic insulation, crawl-space sealing, and structural exclusion repair - not only in wildlife control. We match exclusion materials to the structure (color, profile, attachment method) and we leave the building looking like nothing was done. That is the standard.

What does a wildlife inspection cost?

The wildlife inspection has a fee that is reviewed with you when we confirm your appointment. The fee is credited against exclusion work if you move forward. We charge for the inspection because the inspection is real work, not a sales call.

Do you remediate after the wildlife is out?

Yes. Nest removal, feces and dropping cleanup, insulation removal and replacement, sanitation, deodorizing, and structural repair are all part of the exclusion program where the situation calls for it. We document each step and price it transparently.
